In this class, students will learn devising, a technique used to create plays not from a script, but from the minds of the cast of the show. The class begins with an exploration into the fundamentals of performance and storytelling. Students will then use what they have learned to create a series of scenes centered around a theme, which will be chosen by the class. Students will edit these scenes as a class, into a short work of theatre, which will then be rigorously rehearsed. The class will culminate in a performance of the students' original work. Through the process of devising a show, students will gain the skills of communication, critical thinking, risk-taking, and teamwork, all of which are important to any actor and human being.
