Mini's & Petites

Mini Creative Movement (approximately 3-5)

Focus and Emphasis: A fun introductory class that will introduce students to dance, Creative Movement and activities help introduce the beginning fundamentals of ballet, jazz and tumbling. Students also play games which enhance cognitive and social development and learn classroom etiquette.

Petite Ballet (approximately 5-7) (Same as Pre-Ballet, see below)

Focus and Emphasis: Dance class focuses on dancing for fun and basic dance techniques of ballet tap. In this class students will be introduced to dance games, basic ballet fundamentals, including dance vocabulary, and basic positions of the feet and arms. Team work and games will enhance cognitive & social development. Students will also learn French vocabulary and classroom etiquette.

Petite Tap (approximately 5-7)

Focus and Emphasis: Dance class focuses on dancing for fun and basic dance techniques of tap. In this class students will be introduced to dance games, basic tap fundamentals, including dance vocabulary, and basic positions of the feet and arms. Team work and games will enhance cognitive & social development. Students will also learn tap classroom etiquette.

Petite Jazz (approximately 5-7)

Focus and Emphasis:Dance class focuses on dancing for fun and basic dance techniques of Jazz. In this class students will be introduced to dance games, basic jazz fundamentals, including dance vocabulary, and basic positions of the feet and arms.Team work and games will enhance cognitive & social development. Students will also learn dance classroom etiquette. 

Petite Hip Hop (approximately 5-7)

Focus and Emphasis:Dance class focuses on dancing for fun and basic dance techniques of  Hip Hop. In this class students will be introduced to dance games, basic hip hop fundamentals, including dance vocabulary, and basic steps and position of the feet and arms. Team work and games will enhance cognitive & social development. Students will also learn dance classroom etiquette. 

Petite Acro (approximately 5-7)

Focus and Emphasis: This high energy and fun class focuses on basic dance technuques combined with precision acrobatic elements. In this class students will be introduced to dance games, basic acro fundamentals, including dance vocabulary, and basic steps and position of the feet and arms. Team work and games will enhance cognitive & social development. Students will also learn dance classroom etiquette. 

Ballet

Pre Ballet (approximately 5-7+)

Focus and Emphasis: This class will be centered on dance games and beginning ballet technique. Students will be introduced to barre, center work and progressions which will help with body control and alignment. It will include basic french ballet vocabulary, classroom etiquette as well as ballet positions, basic turns and group work. Team work and games will enhance cognitive & social development. 

Ballet I (approximately 8+)

Focus and Emphasis: This class is the beginning of the transition from petite ballet/pre ballet into a more diciplined structure of a ballet class. To ease students into class, games will be continued throughout the class along with new techniques. Ballet 1 will be centered on barre and center work. Students will move through the progressions which will help with body control and alignment. The vocabulary for the year is introduced gradually, working form the least difficult to the more complex as the year progresses. Special attention will be placed on slower movements and proper alignment giving students the skills they need to build strength, and posture. Class will include basic turns, jumps, & leaps. French vocabulary and classroom etiquette. (Ballet 1 requires concurrent enrollment in Stretch & Strength class)

Ballet II (assessment required)

Focus and Emphasis: The first few lessons will be spent reviewing the material learned the previous year. New techniques will be added in a logical progression always building on past lessons. The continuation of barre and center work is emphasized building on technique, strength and form. Good study and practice habits are encouraged to build body control, alignment and rotation. Students will learn the classical style of ballet through academic techniques and French terminology. There is a heavy focus of posture, alignment and placement of the feet to insure proper development.  (Ballet II requires concurrent enrollment in Stretch & Strength and at least one more level I, II, or III dance class)

Ballet III (assessment required)

Focus and Emphasis: During the third year of study, the subtleties of the classical training begin to be addressed. Emphasis on corrections and awareness of correct line will become a part of the measure of progress. Coordination between arms, and legs is emphasized, both at the barre and during the adagio section in the center. Another focus is on the upper body, postioning of the arms, shoulders and torso. (Ballet III requires concurrent enrollment in Stretch & Strength and at least two more level II, or above dance classes)

Ballet IV (assessment required)

Focus and Emphasis:During the fourth year of study, the vocabulary, thus the lessons become more extensive. It is necessary to conitue to stress basic alignment and to maks reu that transisitons between positions are correct and clean. Strengthm posture, and alignment are critical at this point in the students training. Toward the end of the fourth year students will be going on pointe. Emphasis will be on strengthing, toning and centering the body in preparation to rise on the toes. (Ballet IV requires concurrent enrollment in Stretch & Strength and at least three more level II, or above dance classes)

Jumps & Turns (assessment required)

Focus and Emphasis: This class builds on the continuation of skills learned in ballet, jazz, and contemporary. It explores jumps and turns in depth and focuses on proper placement of posture, arms, legs and feet. Multiple turn styles and fun jumps will be the focus of this high energy class.

 

Hip-Hop, Jazz, & Musical Theatre

Jazz I / lyrical

Focus and Emphasis: In this class students will be introduced to basic jazz dance fundamentals,  with a focus on primary, barre, and floor stretches. This includes body alignment, Jazz isolations, Jazz port de bras, and  dance vocabulary. Team work, games, and jazz walk combinations will enhance cognitive & social development. Students will also learn beginning jazz combinations and classroom etiquette. (Jazz I requires concurrent enrollment in Stretch & Strength class)

Jazz II

Focus and Emphasis:This class builds on the continuation of skills learned in Jazz I . The focus remains on exercises and strength exercies including floor, barre, and isolations.  As the class progresses  students will move into percussive isolations, lunge positions and plies. Development of intermediate dance skills will continue throughout the year. Team work, jazz walks and combinations will enhance collaborative efforts and create a cohesive team. Students will also learn Jazz routines and classroom etiquette. (Jazz II requires concurrent enrollment in Ballet II or above and  Stretch & Strength)

Contemporary (ballet required)

Focus and Emphasis: This class builds on the continuation of skills in ballet technique and combines the message and meaning behind the movement. Contemporary dance focuses on interpretation, artistic expression, and embraces innovation. Team work, multilple dance styles, and collaboration will create a fun and exciting cohesive team.

Musical Theatre

Focus and Emphasis: Students will be introduced to basic dance fundamentals necessary for Musical Theatre. Focus on primary, barre, and floor stretches are included to build strength and stability. Center work, combinations and team work are emphasized throughout. Musical Theatre combinations, dance vocabulary and choreography will create a sense of teamwork and collaboration. 

Hip-Hop I (8+)

Focus and Emphasis:This high energy dance class will continue from concepts learned in Petite Hip Hop/Jazz and continue with more indepth termiilology and exercises. Hip-hop trends will be explored including the latest dance trends and dancing moves. Focus on cardio exercises, and primary, and floor stretches will create the strength and stamina needed for this dance art form. This includes body alignment, isolations, and  dance vocabulary. Team work, games, and Hip Hop combinations will enhance cognitive & social development. All movement will be modest & age appropriate with an emphasis on dance classroom etiquette. All music will be free of questionable lyrics.

Tap & Acro

Tap I

Focus and Emphasis: This fun and challenging form of dance promotes a combination of rhythm, timing and coordination. Concepts taught in Petite Ballet/Tap will be reviewed and continue to develop. Students will develop musicality through various center and cross-floor exercises and routines. This class focuses on proper techniques, clear taps and appropriate speed. Students will also learn tap routines and classroom etiquette.

Tap II

Focus and Emphasis: A continuation of Tap I, this fun and challenging form of dance promotes a combination of rhythm, timing and coordination. Students will further develop musicality through various center and cross-floor exercises and routines. This class focuses on proper techniques, clear taps, time steps and appropriate speed. Students will also learn tap routines and classroom etiquette.

Acro

Focus and Emphasis: This high energy and challenging class offers dance form, rhythm, timing and athletics. Acro dance combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is the fusion of dance technique, athleticism, agility, and strength through acrobatic skills that are seamlessly incorporated into dance choreography. A variety of music styles will be explored.

Adult Dance (16+)

Focus and Emphasis: This fun and challenging class offering a variety ofdance forms. Participants will be encouranged to let the teacher know dance styles that they would like to pursue. Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Muisical Theatre and Hip Hop are all on the table. Adult dance class promotes a combination of technique, rhythm, timing and coordination. Students will develop musicality through various barre, center and cross-floor exercises and routines. This class focuses on proper techniques, combinations, fitness and fun.  All levels welcome.
